On Saturday 5 October, Stirling Symphonic Spectacular lit up the historic walls of the Church of the Holy Rude with a mesmerising display of lights and colours, bringing a modern twist to this beautiful, timeless building.
Audiences were treated to 2 excellent shows. The early show featured 2 surprise guests – Elsa from Frozen and Captain Jack Sparrow all the way from the Caribbean. Family themed music set to lasers entertained this audience, who were also delighted to have photographs taken with both characters.
The later show presented a fantastic 15 piece rock orchestra playing a selection of music accompanied by a brilliant light and laser show. Local man James Russell who organised the event says ‘This has been an ambition of mine for a while and I was thrilled to see if coming to fruition within the stunning Church of the Holy Rude. Thank you to the brilliant crew and talented musicians who made it all happen and thank you to the audiences who came along and enjoyed the events. I was so delighted we sold out for both shows.’
James was supported by a number of local businesses, including Luna Café and Vinnie’s Bar. James is planning more events in Stirling and at the Church of the Holy Rude – keep an eye on Stirling Laser Symphonic Spectacular on social media and the Church’s website, www.churchoftheholyrude.co.uk for events planned for 2025.
The Church of the Holy Rude is open to visitors daily until Sunday 27 October. Why not come along and see the Church where Mary Queen of Scots infant son was crowned James VI of Scotland in 1567? This makes the Church of the Holy Rude the only existing Church out with Westminster Abbey to have hosted a Royal Coronation.
Local Charity Stirling District Tourism (SDT) work in partnership with the Church managing the visitor experience. SDT Chair David Black added “We were delighted to welcome a different audience to the Church on Saturday night at this excellent event and look forward to working with James again’’
On 30 November the Church will host a day conference celebrating Stirling’s rich Heritage with a number of speakers and a guided walk of the Old Town Cemetery. Tickets for the conference will shortly be available on the Chruch’s website: www.churchoftheholyrude.co.uk
