Bringing Music to Stirling
Busking is part of what makes Stirling’s city centre vibrant and welcoming. From acoustic musicians to street performers, busking helps create atmosphere, supports local culture and adds to the city’s unique character.
To help ensure everyone can enjoy the city centre, Stirling Council, Police Scotland and Go Forth Stirling BID have developed a guide to good practice for performers.
Busking Guidelines
🎵 Busking is permitted between 11:00am and 4:00pm
📍 Move at least 50 metres away after performing in one location for one hour
🔊 Amplified music should be kept to a level that does not disrupt businesses or residents
🎤 Please do not perform within 50 metres of another busker
🚫 The sale of merchandise is not permitted unless you hold a valid Street Trader’s Licence
🚶🏼♀️ Keep pavements clear and avoid creating obstructions for pedestrians
💒 Avoid performing near locations where quiet is required, including churches, cemeteries, emergency contact centres and transport terminals
👮🏼♀️ If requested by a Police Constable in uniform to stop performing, you must do so immediately.
Respect the City Centre
Stirling city centre is a shared space used by residents, visitors, businesses, hospitality venues and cultural organisations. Buskers are encouraged to be considerate of those around them and help maintain a welcoming environment for everyone.
The Law
Under Section 54 of the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982, a Police Constable can require a performance to stop where it causes reasonable annoyance. Failure to comply may result in enforcement action and equipment being seized.
♥ Great busking adds life, culture and creativity to Stirling. Please perform responsibly and help keep our city centre welcoming for all.
